AKOMA NTOSO Examples

Markup examples of various AKOMA NTOSO document types are now available online. In order to simplify the reading of the examples, we have developed a software that shows in a side by side way the XML marked up documents and the human readable versions of the documents.

A new important part of the AKOMA NTOSO Documentation has been developed. We now have online AKOMA NTOSO examples (http://examples.akomantoso.org) The sub-site presents several examples of markup of the different AKOMA NTOSO document types. Currently we have online the following documents types: Act, Bill, Docs (Generic Documents), Report, Debate Record and Judgement, the latest addition to AKOMA NTOSO.

We think that this set of example documents, that covers all the documents types and uses all the elements of AKOMA NTOSO, will improve the comprehension of the standard mechanisms and the usage of all the structures used by AKOMA NTOSO.

The examples are mainly intended as an aid to the drafters/clerks who are in charge of marking up parliamentary, legislative and judiciary documents to better appreciate how AKOMA NTOSO markup works in the context of the different documents.

In order to simplify the reading of the examples, we have developed a software that shows in a side by side way the XML marked up documents and the human readable versions of the documents.

The software is an open source software, based on the latest WEB 2.0 technologies and permits one to select the various parts of the XML versions of the documents and highlight the corresponding part of the human readable version and vice versa. The software also offer the possibility to read the technical documentation of the XML elements defined by the AKOMA NTOSO standard using a very user friendly tab navigation.

The examples of AKOMA NTOSO (best viewed with Firefox, Opera or Safari can also be viewed with Internet Explorer but the performance will be slow), are presented in a way that allows the user to click on any element and see the part of the text it refers to if any and also the technical documentation of the selected element in separate tab. You can also select what level of display you want to see the XML code thus allowing quick movement around the schema. It is also possible to click on the text at the right end side of the screen (HTML Representation) and see highlighted in the left part of the screen the corresponding XML code.

Please note that a drafter/clerk will never come across the actual XML and the mark-up will be done by using the traditional interface of a text editor with forms etc. So, there is no need to "panic".

A technical user will be able to better understand elements, their requirements etc. in the context of actual examples while at the same time accessing the technical documentation if needed.
